SMART Online Courses

The SMART research group has deployed multiple free online courses on COURSERA as part of a new initiative to deploy an entire specialization on Neuroimaging. The ideas is to create a complete set of tools and tutorials for introducing important ideas from Neuroimaging and for providing a stress-free on-demand system for novice and advanced Neuroimaging users.

Elizabeth Sweeney, John Muschelli, and Ciprian Crainiceanu recently deployed Introduction to Neurohacking In R. The course is a tutorial designed to introduce the basics of Neuroimaging using R with applications to structural MRI (sMRI) including visualization, data manipulation, pre-processing, intensity normalization, registration (spatial normalization), and lesion mapping. This course is now required as a pre-requisite for collaboration with the structural imaging research sub-group of SMART. The course provides a familiar software framework for Biostatisticians interested in Neuroimaging and reduces the training time from ~6 months to ~2 weeks.

Martin Lindquist and Tor Wager are teaching the highly successful courses Principles of fMRI 1 and Principles of fMRI 2 which cover the design of experiments, acquisition, and analysis of functional MRI (fMRI) data.
